Information Management: A ProposalPDF Download

Tim Berners-Lee's proposal begins with the difficulty of keeping information connected inside a changing research organization. Hypertext is presented as a practical response to scattered knowledge and fragile links between people and projects.

The modest starting problem is part of what makes it moving. Read the proposal before importing everything the Web later became; the initial constraints explain many of its design instincts.
