Edit PDF Metadata

Every PDF carries hidden metadata: the original author, the software that produced it, the date it was written. Edit those fields, set them to whatever you want, or strip them entirely before publishing. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Upload a PDF, edit the fields, then save.

Editing runs in your browser using pdf-lib. The PDF is never uploaded.

What lives inside PDF metadata

Document properties

PDFs store a small set of properties: title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, and timestamps. They appear in viewer "Document Properties" dialogs and are indexed by search engines and DMS tools.

Privacy implications

Metadata can reveal the original document author, the software they used, and when they wrote it. Strip all metadata before publishing anonymous documents or sending sensitive material externally.

PDF metadata FAQ

Is anything uploaded?

No. Metadata editing happens in your browser using pdf-lib. The PDF is never sent to a server.

Does this remove every trace of the original author?

It clears the standard metadata fields. Some PDFs also embed XMP metadata or custom information dictionaries; this tool clears the standard set. Inspect the result in a viewer to confirm no remaining fields.

Does editing metadata change page content?

No. Page text, vectors, fonts, and images are not touched. Only the document information dictionary changes.

Can I change the creation date?

Creation and modification dates are displayed for reference. They are not editable here. Stripping metadata clears both.

Why are some fields blank when I open the PDF?

PDFs only show fields that have been set. If the original document did not set the author, the field will be empty.

Can I share the new PDF as a link?

Yes. After download, upload it to PDFtoLink to generate an instant shareable URL with optional password protection.
